Differences Between Chinese and Global MIUI ROM

Chinese vs Global ROM

After purchasing Xiaomi's smartphones. I've seen a lot of peoples keep asking, which ROM is better, which ROM to install, which one will be best for me, how to install / flash, should I really change ROM, what actually the difference between Chinese and global MIUI ROM?

A lot of questions. Isn't it?

Yes, these questions can be heard from new Xiaomi users.

Even after I suggested my all cousin to purchase Xiaomi phones and they purchased. After that, they were keep asking me these questions.

So, I've decided to write a small content about the difference of Chinese and Global MIUI ROM.

Differences Between Chinese and Global MIUI ROM:

  • Actually, the Global ROM is for international users without China, and Chinese ROM is for China. But It doesn't mean, you can't use Chinese ROM if you don't live in China.
  • If you flash Chinese ROM, you have to download Google Installer to install Google apps (such as Google play store, etc.)
  • In Global ROM, you don't have to download Google Installer. Why? Because In Global ROM, it has built-in Google apps.
  • Just like Google have Built in google play store. You can see a different app store on Chinese ROM as well (It's also big like Google Play Store).
  • As you know, Xiaomi is China's product. They give official update quickly on Chinese ROM. In Global ROM, It takes some time to receive an update.
  • In Chinese ROM's app store, they will be a lot of words in Chinese. It will annoy you some time.
  • You can change phone's font style in Chinese ROM. But you can't find font setting in Global ROM.
  • In Chinese ROM, you need Mi credits to purchase some quality themes. In Global ROM, all themes are free.
  • You will face some problems on Chinese ROM's keyboard. But after you install any other keyboard from Google play store. It will be fine.
  • There will be some useless app on Chinese ROM (It will be useless if you don't live in China).
  • After asking peoples who've used Chinese ROM, most of all says that. They get better battery performance in Chinese ROM than Global ROM.
  • In Chinese ROM, there will be a built-in feature for ROOT your device, wherein Global ROM, not.

The MIUI ROM is all depends on user's uses. Some people like Global ROM and some Chinese. But If you are currently using Global ROM and at least one time you flash or install Chinese ROM. I'm pretty sure, you will be in love with Chinese ROM.

If you got any kind of questions, feel free to ask in comment or contact box.

  1. When you say Chinese ROM app store, are you referring to the default or also in Google store?

And what themes are you talking about? Is it Xiaomi themes and will it have any effect on me getting Nova launcher as an example.

    Best regards

  2. Hi Samuel,

I started using the Chinese rom lately and believe me its fantastic "performance" wise when compared to the Global rom. About your question, in the Chinese rom, the default google store like app is namely the "app store" created mainly for the Chinese apps as well global apps but in Chinese language. In the global rom, all the themes are free except a few which have to be purchased for usage wherein in the Chinese rom, most of the themes are paid ones, you cannot try/use them for free.

In short, the app store (default) in the Chinese rom will give you updates for all the built in Chinese apps (including some global apps) for example - Mi Browser, Mi Music, etc.

After you flash your mobile with Chinese rom, make sure to install the Google Installer from the app store (built in) which will enable you to use all the global apps without any problems & believe me, the performance & battery are always at the optimum which in Global rom, the battery drains extremely fast even in doze mode while the apps & functioning of the apps is much much slower in the Global rom than the Chinese rom.

Go ahead & flash your mobile with the Chinese rom :)

  8. For those who are living in Asia (that we know 'most' people don't really use some of the google apps). You can use China ROM and why not? It has more battery power (according to China ROM users including me), early in software updates, and more customizations except the theme(you can install google play store anyways and find the perfect theme for you). For those who are wondering "How about the chinese apps?". Don't worry my friend, you can uninstall those apps you don't want. Remember that China ROM has a built-in root feature, so you can pretty much make a way about it :) Hope it helps.
