Easy Way To Identify Official Xiaomi ROM

Xiaomi ROM

Official Xiaomi! Nowadays, there are a lot of reseller shop / online stores in the different country and mostly those who are selling the Xiaomi Smart Phones. They've installed vendor ROM / CUSTOM ROM / Non-Official ROM on those phones.
Peoples who are buying Xiaomi phones for the first time, It's pretty hard for them to identify, If the phone is original with official ROM or not.

So, we've decided to write very easiest way to make sure, and your phone is running on official Xiaomi ROM.

First of all, let me clear this two thing about official and non-official ROM for you. You could ask, what's the difference between these. Right?

Official ROM: Authentic, Unadulterated, Unblemished ROM manufactured by the Xiaomi Developers. Typically comes with Xiaomi Units released by Xiaomi themselves.

Non-Official ROM: Fake, Tampered, Mutilated ROM installed by third party resellers on Xiaomi Units before selling to their customers.

And let me also come to the advantage and disadvantage between these two kinds of ROM.

Advantages of Official Xiaomi ROM:
  • You can receive an official OTA update on your phone.
  • You can easily request for unlocking bootloader.
  • There won't be any malware or Bloatware.
  • Supported by Official MiFlash tool.

Disadvantages of non-official ROM:
  • You can't receive an update on your phone (Except, if the reseller or who made the fake ROM release a new version of ROM, which mostly not possible).
  • Full of Bloatware.
  • There is some malware found before on non-official ROM.
  • There will be a lot of bugs on the ROM (such as, closing apps while using etc.)
  • MiFlash tool won't support the ROM on your phone.
  • You may void official warranty.

Now come to the main point of this content, how to identify Official Xiaomi ROM:

First of all, you have to go to Setting > About Phone > MIUI Version.

The format of Stable ROM: 8.X.X.X, here 8 means MIUI 8 and X.X.X is the version of MIUI 8. In the future, if MIUI 9 comes to release. It will start from 9.

The format of Developer ROM: X.X.X For instance, 6.7.14 represents the year, month and day. Means this developer version is released on the 14th July 2016.

We can also identify which type of MIUI stable version in your phone by checking the 7 letters in MIUI version. How? Let's acquire the 7 letters of Stable ROM from About phone > MIUI Version.

For Example, after the ROM version. There are 7 letter "KHDCNDG" and "KHDMIDG". There are 4th and 5th letters are the main indicators for you. Where CN = China ROM and MI = Global ROM.

Official Stable ROM will have always 3 DECIMAL POINTS and official Developers (Beta) ROM will always have 2 DECIMAL POINTS.

For example, Stable ROM will have 8.0.2.0 but never 8.0.2.0.0 and Developers (beta) ROM will have 6.5.30 but never will be 6.5.30.0

Make sure, you check your phone's ROM before buying from a nearby shop.
